1) Ghost Island is a hologram? Jim, please comment on this: HOLOGRAM STORY
2) The Ghost Island Flowers and Touching Society has been officially disbanded after it was discovered that they were actually a front for an organization that stole ancient artifacts and sold them on the black market.
3) The following native species have been added to the collection of the Ghost Island Zoological Park:

Hey I read the article on Holograms, and I have a couple of points to make:
1) The article really contains two threads of interest – the Hologram theory itself and the evidence this GEO experiment generated to support it. There are at least a couple of these “Hologram” theories but you shouldn’t take them to mean the universe is somehow “faking” its three dimensional nature. Most advanced theories of physics reach a similar level of abstraction that re-posits the universe as a convenient mathematical structure. As for the evidence, even the article has to admit that this is very preliminary, and they’ll have to do better than to claim some noise in a noisy machine before we start to believe it to be scientifically true.
2) I think there is a particularly telling paragraph in the story:
Such a situation would not be unprecedented in physics. Giant detectors built to look for a hypothetical form of radioactivity in which protons decay never found such a thing. Instead, they discovered that neutrinos can change from one type into another – arguably more important because it could tell us how the universe came to be filled with matter and not antimatter.
That discovery, that neutrinos can change from one type into another [as they travel to the earth from the sun], is famous but he missed an important point in describing its significance – the implication of neutrinos changing type is that they must have mass, because if they didn’t have mass they would have something like “infinite” time dilation (because they moved at the speed of light) and could not change in time. That neutrinos have mass is a fairly major discovery, as it fills in another empty slot in the Standard Model of Physics.
Oh scoop.
